Solana — Fast, Cheap, Controversial
Solana made speed its core principle. Thousands of transactions per second, fees in fractions of a cent. This attracted an ecosystem spanning DeFi, NFTs and meme coins — especially the latter, where Solana outpaced every other chain in 2024/2025.
The flip side: Solana had multiple network outages lasting hours. Each one damaged the trust argument. For a chain positioning itself as "Visa for crypto," downtime is a real problem — not just a PR issue.
The Meme Coin Machine
Solana became the home of meme coin culture. Low fees and fast finality make it trivial to launch new tokens and trade them in seconds. That brings volume and attention but also attracts scams and pump-and-dump schemes. When evaluating Solana ecosystem coins, look closely at whether volume reflects real usage or just speculative rotation.
What You Should Know
Solana has a strong validator network, but hardware requirements are high — making decentralization more fragile than Ethereum's. Most ecosystem tokens have their own tokenomics with separate risks: unlock schedules, team allocations, inflation. Check whether a project has real recurring usage or is just riding the last hype cycle.
