Avalanche has an unusual architecture: three specialized chains (X-Chain for transfers, C-Chain for smart contracts, P-Chain for platform coordination) under one roof. The C-Chain is EVM-compatible, making onboarding easy for Ethereum developers.
Subnets — The Real Innovation
Subnets are Avalanche's differentiator: custom blockchains using the Avalanche network but defining their own rules. Ideal for gaming, institutional applications or regulatory requirements. Each subnet can have its own validators, tokens and fee structures.
AVAX and the Ecosystem
AVAX is used for transaction fees and subnet validation — giving the token clearer value accrual than pure governance tokens. But the ecosystem is smaller than Ethereum's or Solana's. Whether subnets gain enough traction to justify valuation remains to be seen.
